Mr.
Calmer has been a music educator for more than twenty-five years
and is the Band director at Coconut Creek High School in Coconut
Creek. His teaching experience includes Band, Marching Band,
Jazz Band, Orchestra, AP and IB Music Theory, Guitar, Piano and
Sound and Light Technology. Mr. Calmer taught band and
orchestra for six years at JFK middle school in Dade County,
band for ten years at Deerfield Beach High School, band,
orchestra, piano, guitar and theater technology for seven years
at Stoneman Douglas High School, band for one year at North
Broward Prep. School, and one year at Coconut Creek High School.
At Stoneman Douglas, he completed his Nationally Board Certified
Teacher in Orchestra. Mr. Calmer earned his B.A. degree from
Kent State University and was the guest conductor of the
Mississippi All State Orchestra in 2006 and Broward County’s
Silver Orchestra in 2007.
Mr. Calmer maintains high standards of
excellence for the performing ensembles under his direction.
Consistently, his orchestras and bands have earned “Superior”
ratings on district and state MPA’s in Florida. He sustained
award winning marching bands at Deerfield Beach and Stoneman
Douglas, created the marching band program at North Broward Prep
and reestablished a quality music program at Coconut Creek High
School.
Mr. Calmer served on the FOA state board as
the coordinator for the 11th and 12th grade All State Orchestra for three years and was awarded the
“Innovative Project Award” for orchestra mentoring programs in
2001-2002.
In his private time, Mr. Calmer performs
professionally on his electric bass in his rock band. He
arranges a wide range of music for Jazz, marching, string
orchestras and judges show choirs at Universal Studios, Florida.

Band Director Dean Calmer has assembled an award
winning staff and is excited to begin a new team
that will strive to be a trend setter in Broward
County. The auxiliary staff consists of:
John Williams: John has been director of World Class competitive
units and spent the last twelve years with the
Stoneman Douglas Auxiliary.
Daniel Riley: Daniel is currently on tour with The Cadets Drum and
Bugle Corps and has previously taught at Stoneman
Douglas, Braddock Independent and Northmont High in
Ohio.
The new team is looking for all interested students
with or without experience. |
